‘HEART To  HEART ’   (Heart Pillow Project – UMW)

HEART PILLOWS – for breast cancer survivors.
We have donated nearly 300  pillows to Ephrata Community Hospital and the Ephrata Cancer Center. This is a continuing project of United Methodist Women/Ephrata First UMC.

Pillows are also available to anyone in our congregation, or may be given by  First UMC visitation committee.

We hope the project will be of interest to others: to provide funds for purchasing materials, be willing to construct the pillows, or donate needed fabrics, polyester fill, etc.

This project for breast cancer patients is available in hospitals throughout the US.

** Brochures about Breast Cancer are also available.
Throughout the year volunteers ‘work’ at Material Resource Ctr (Mennonite Central Committee).  We supply health and school kits. Several UMW members sew the bags. We have collected items for the Relief ‘Buckets’ and also pack them. We sort clothing, cut patches for quilting, inspect, or put together, kits, – etc

UMW has a special spring project – March Spring Tea. We provide cards with a poem and tea bags(no caffeine) and ask for $ to provide for a specific program in the area, ex  – shelves for EASS, paper supplies for Clare House (home for homeless women and children), bunk beds for CH and KY mission.

First UMC is a part of the Southwest District of the East PA Conference.

In April the District holds Ingathering and Day Apart.  Throughout the year we are collecting new clothing to be given to 5 or 6 clothing banks in the district. (Includes EASS). 2010 event had 125 in attendance, collected almost 6,000 pieces of new clothing, 150 quilts, and provided  $500 offering. Local clothing banks have been requesting socks and underwear for all sizes.  This event is held at church within the District. Day Apart is a time of reflection with a speaker from different areas.
ThankOffering in November is collected for UMW outreach to women, children, youth
throughout the world.
